Made in Taiwan or in China

The government has just authorized Taiwanese semi-conductors ton invest money in China to build wafer factories (wafers is like a very big disk that is imprinted with thousands of microchip circuits to be cut and make microchips)

You have to know that Taiwan is the biggest maker of micro chips in the world.
All companies around the world have they're chips made here. (Texas instruments,IBM,Sony,)

Traditionally It was impossible for an hightec  company  to  invest  in China  due to the cross -strait tension between China and Taiwan.
China considers  Taiwan a  renegade  province  but Taiwan  considers  herself an autonomous country.
The reason for this? The pressure from the major companies (Powerchip,UMC,TSMC, (TSMC makes half of the chips in the world)) The salaries in Taiwan are getting high (about 1600$ cad per month for a junior engineer has for in China 500$)

There will be an election in two years in Taiwan and these companies supply most of the money to the two parties.
The DDT (green party) is a pro-independence party actually in power. They have refused to see Taiwan money go to China but now they are in danger of not being re-elected due to the lack of money from these companies. The DDT have decided to bent they're rules and the law to get money and stay in power.
The KMT (blue party) is a pro-reunification party. They have always been in favor of creating an free economic zone.

What does this mean for Taiwanese?
Job cuts,salary cuts,lost of wealth.

This decision is not (in my view) for the benefit of Taiwanese but instead for the politicians who are greedy.

My wife works for one of these companies witch  I will not  name, so  I will give  you  a  more complete report on how this decision will affect Taiwanese workers in they're life and future in an other entry on this blog.
